Common Questions Answered

  • How to Take Care of a New Tattoo?

    • Keep it clean: Gently wash with mild, fragrance-free soap and warm water.
    • Pat dry: Use a clean paper towel. Do not rub.
    • Moisturize: Apply a thin layer of fragrance-free, unscented lotion when the tattoo feels dry.
    • Don’t pick or scratch: Peeling and light scabbing are normal.
    • Avoid soaking: No pools, baths, hot tubs, or swimming until fully healed.
    • Avoid direct sun: Keep your tattoo covered from the sun while healing. Wear clean, loose clothing to prevent rubbing and irritation.
    • Let it heal: Most tattoos take about 2–4 weeks to heal on the surface.
  • When to Seek Medical Help with a New Tattoo?

Some redness, tenderness, swelling, peeling, and mild itching are normal while a tattoo heals. Contact a healthcare professional if you notice:

    • Redness or swelling that gets worse instead of better
    • Increasing warmth, severe pain, or tenderness
    • Pus, foul-smelling drainage, or significant oozing
    • Red streaks spreading away from the tattoo
    • Fever, chills, or feeling generally unwell
    • A rash, severe itching, or swelling that spreads beyond the tattoo
    • Difficulty breathing, facial/throat swelling, or other signs of a severe allergic reaction — seek emergency care immediately

When in doubt, it’s better to have a concerning tattoo checked by a medical professional.
